Testimonials“First and foremost, the 2019 CBU trip to London completely exceeded my expectations. Being an OPS student, I had no prior relationship with anyone on the trip, but soon found myself surrounded by family. The main takeaway that I will never forget would have to be the association of teachers and fellow students experiencing firsthand English culture and getting to do life together. Being able to create memories touring Wimbledon and Oxford, getting to play cricket at the Lord’s Cricket Grounds (even though I struck out), and re-enacting The Beatles’ Abbey Road, were just a few things that will forever be in my heart.”
- Christian Sandoval CBU ‘19 "The London trip was an amazing trip that I will never forget in my life. Not only I have met amazing people but also had the opportunity to learn a lot about the sports industry, and the history of the country. The London trip in its entirety is unforgettable. So, I don’t think I can really think of one specific experience that is of my favorite as they were all a bucket list! Learning about the history of London through visiting tourist spots and the itinerary of educational tourists that was set for us was truly humbling. Just experiencing the culture truly in itself regardless of where we were and what we were doing was already topnotch! On top of that, it was incredibly fun when we were given the opportunity to learn how to play their famous sport, the cricket. I am truly grateful for this experience. I hope CBU continues to give opportunities like this to students. It sparks curiosity to learn more about the sports industry in the US and in other parts of the world, to experience a different culture, and allows to build life- long relationships. Truly, I am blessed to have been a part of this great opportunity!" - Marian Dennis "The Cal Baptist London trip was incredibly valuable to me. It gave me the opportunity to experience a different culture without the time commitment of an entire study abroad semester. As an online Master’s student, it also gave me the opportunity to meet some of my classmates and professors in person and build lasting relationships. London does sports so differently than America. You can read about it, you can watch documentaries on it, but you will never fully understand it until you experience it for yourself. I often found myself in awe. Playing cricket on the Lorde’s Cricket grounds, running on the same track as Olympians, learning about the rich history of Wimbledon while alongside the grass courts, witnessing state of the art gym floor technology at Oxford, presenting a case study to a professional football organization…it was all so surreal. I left London with a whole new appreciation for sports. When I received the email about this trip, I was hesitant to say yes. It was completely outside of my comfort zone, I didn’t know if I would be able to take the time away from work/school, or be able to financially commit. I felt so strongly called to go on this trip, so I ended up trusting in God and saying yes to this trip…and I am so glad I did. As a college coach, I was able to immediately apply some of the things I saw and experienced in London into my daily life. I highly recommend that anyone interested in having a sports-related career go on this trip!!!" - Samantha Neely |
